Okay, so not only is it starting to warm up - my garden is starting to show hints of green, but the fresh citurs right now is amazing! I'm absolutely eating as much of it as I can right now...Cara Cara oranges, Blood Oranges, Satsuma Stem & Leaf Oranges - the list can go on and on.
What better way to celebrate the citrus season, than with a wonderful cocktail!
Winter Citrus Smash

Ingredients
Zest of 1 blood orange
1 blood orange quartered (peel is removed from zesting)
Juice of 1/2 a lime
2 tbsp pomegranate juice
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
3-4 mint leaves
1/2 oz simple syrup (1:1 sugar/water syrup), add more if necessary
2 oz good quality tequila
Sparkling water, to top (optional depending on how strong you want your drink to be)
Method
In a cocktail shaker, combine blood orange zest, blood orange, lime juice, pomegranate juice, ginger, mint leaves and simple syrup. muddle until mint is bruised and oranges have released juices.
Add tequila. Fill shaker with ice and shake until shaker is frosty cold, about 30 seconds. Strain into glass. Top with sparkling water. Garnish with sliced book oranges and mint. Enjoy!
