People, it's officially flu season. There are some highly undesirable germs about, at the moment. My only advice is to wash your hands repeatedly whenever you touch anything or go into public spaces. Having just gotten over a lengthy stomach bug myself, I'm fully riding the smoothie bandwagon to get some Vitamin C and nutrients back into my system!
While I usually enjoy leafy greens, or greens and berry-based smoothies, I'm trying to infuse as many vitamins, antioxidants and potassium back into my system as possible. So, I'm heading to the tropical side of fruit options, for this Tropical Fruit Sunshine Smoothie. Perfect for breakfast or as a mid-morning snack, this smoothie is sure to be a pick-me up! Sip a little or drink it all, it's loaded with flavour and nutrients to get you healthy and keep you feeling great!
Remember, smoothies are more of a formula, than a recipe. So, feel free to substitute any fruit or nutrient additives you might like to this recipe. This recipe can easily be doubled.
Here's to winter health & Tropical Fruit Sunshine Smoothies.
Enjoy,

Tropical Fruit Sunshine Smoothie
Makes 2 - 1 cup glasses
Ingredients
3/4 - 1 cup pineapple chunks (I cut up a whole pineapple, but use canned if that's easier, just remember to reserve some of the liquid)
1/4 c citrus juice (I used freshly squeezed orange juice - reserved pineapple juice, blood orange or ruby red grapefruit juices would all be good - you could also use coconut water for additional electrolytes and hydration)
1/2 mango, cut into chunks
1 banana, frozen
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1 teaspoon ground flax meal
1 tablespoon hemp hearts
6 ice cubes
1 teaspoon agave nectar (optional - if you use a sweeter citrus juice, you won't need the agave)
star fruit, for garnish (or add to ingredients as well)
Method
Add all ingredients, in the order they are listed, into a Vitamix or high powered blender. The ingredient order helps blenders, such as the Vitamix blend more efficiently. Place blender on smoothie setting or blend, gradually increasing from low to high speed for about 60 seconds, or until the liquid is smooth and thickened.
Pour smoothie into two glasses and serve.
