This week's Cocktail Of The Week, the Negroni Sbagliato, is a perfect Valentine's Day cocktail, #cocktailoftheweek and special evening sipper.
I first tried the Negroni Sbagliata at Gemma, the Italian restaurant in the Bowery Hotel, in the Lower East Side, NYC and was sold. Sweet, bitter, citrus, effervescent - it's nothing short of refreshing!
A standard negroni is an Italian apertif, served world-wide, with equal parts campari, sweet vermouth and gin. Rumour has it that, a few decades ago, a barkeep in Italy was making a negroni and instead of reaching for the gin, accidentally grabbed and mixed prosecco into the negroni. Hence, the "sbagliato" or "mistaken", was born and became a drink of choice, the Negroni Sbagliato.
The Negroni Sbagliato is a light and refreshing drink that's as perfect for a summer evening as it is for a special occasion.
I like to serve my Negroni Sbagliato in my Grandmother's crystal cocktail glasses. It can also be served in a coupe, old fashioned glass, or a champagne flute. My garnish is an ode to John Bon Jovi - Shot Through The Heart! Perfect for all the love out there on Valentine's Day!
The Negroni Sbagliato is colourful, flavourful and the perfect sip to share with those you love.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Enjoy,
