Jalapeño Candle Centrepiece for Cinco De Mayo

If you follow along with the blog, you will know that I'm a huge supporter of eating and shopping both locally and seasonally. One of the things I love to do when entertaining or creating a tablescape vignette is to incorporate edible elements. Sometimes they're in, or are the centrepiece (lemons, limes, apple blossom branches, apples and pomegranates) and sometimes they are a part of my flower arrangements (mint, basil, strawberries on their stem). I think it adds not only a little surprise, but it also foreshadows fresh seasonal ingredients that can be expected in the evening or brunch menu.

With Cinco De Mayo, it was a no-brainer to incorporate limes and jalapeños into the table centrepiece. I was inspired by this Pinterest image (here), to create an elegant and edible arrangement.

Depending on the length of your table, 1, 3 or 5 of these jalapeño centrepieces with limes and potted succulents surrounding the space will look very desert-like and natural.

Step 1:

Choose your vessel. I wanted a white bowl with some height, so I choose a footed urn for flowers. Make sure your vessel isn't too large, you want the length of the jalapeño, when place at the centre point to hang over the edge, so that you can layer.

Step 2:

Choose a candle that fits your colour palette and sits flat in the middle of your vessel. Place in vessel. The jalapeños will secure it in place. It should not be wobbly though. Use putty to secure it if you are not sure it will remain upright (or choose a safer vessel).

Step 3:

Start layering same-sized jalapeños beginning with the lower layer that rests on the lip of the vessel. I used about 20 jalapeños in total for 1 shallow vessel, 8" in diameter. Your number will vary depending on the size and depth of your vessel.

Step 4:

Right before guests arrive, light your candle and get ready for a fabulous fiesta!
