Father's Day is right around the corner and this is the first recipe from my Mediterranean Father's Day menu. Every few days I will be adding another one of the menu recipes, just in time for the big day on June 16th!
To start the party right, I wanted a beer cocktail. Father's Day, mid-June, usually falls on a pretty warm day here in Vancouver, so I chose a cocktail that is light and refreshing. It's a special drink for all Dads to enjoy outside, at the beach or by a bbq somewhere.
The Beers Knees (original recipe here), is a riff on a gin-forward cocktail called the Bees Knees. The Beers Knees is essentially a Bees Knees, topped with Heogaarden, a light coloured, unfiltered wheat beer with citrusy aromas and flavours from Belgium.
All I can say is, Cheers!
The Beers Knees
1.5 oz gin, London Dry
1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 oz honey syrup (made by making a 1:1 honey:water syrup)
3-4oz Hooegarden beer
Lemon wheels for garnish
Combine gin, lemon juice and honey syrup in a shaker with ice and shake until canister begins to chill. Strain into a Collins glass and top with the Hooegarden beer. Add a lemon wheel garnish and enjoy!
Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there!
Enjoy,
Krista
