I love entertaining and having guests over. I think one of the best ways we can show our friends and families how we care about them, is to prepare a lovely meal, to be eaten together at a beautiful table. The times we spend time together, the tone set by a beautiful aesthetic, fun playful music, conversations and laughs - is really what matters most.
I just love how this Boho Valentine's tablescape turned out. It's dainty, soft and warm. When entertaining, I want my guests to feel welcome, and the table to be an inviting space. I think that sense of soft togetherness came through in the design. I'm including a list below of items I used to create this tablescape, however, what's important is not sourcing and buying new items, it's about using what you have to create a welcoming feel.
Here are Three Keys To Creating A Feminine Boho Tablescape,
1. Soft, floral motif (dinner & glassware)
2. Table "Spillers"
3. Florals & Greenery
1. For the tablescape:
I wanted to keep the colour palette to three key colours, including a neutral, soft pale pink and one darker shade of pink. I then used gold metallics as a warm accent.
My tablescape design included:
Soft pink placemats from The Cross Design
China dinnerware & tea cup candles from Mikasa
Gold matte cutlery from Home Sense
Blush gold rimmed glassware from Anthropologie
White & centrepiece candles from Anthropologie & Homesense
Metallic coasters from Anthropologie
2. For The Table "Spillers":
I love to scatter a table with little somethings after it's finished being laid. I think it adds a finishing touch, or an element of surprise. Sometimes I'm looking to add an extra pop of colour (image below), sometimes I want extra shimmer and sparkle, sometime I am looking to fill empty spaces and sometimes I want something unexpected to give guests a conversation starter (in my Winter Woodland tablescape, here, I hid glass woodland creatures in the greenery for guests to find).
In my Boho Feminine Valentine's tablescape, I used an ombre assortment of heart shaped jelly beans to add a pop of colour to highlight the colours in the floral arrangements and dinnerware. I wanted something that tied in the dark pinks, blush tones and the pearl white colour I used throughout the tablescape. They matched perfectly. As an added little take-away treat, I set out a neutral egg cup for each place setting with a few extra jelly beans to nibble on throughout the evening. They were a hit!

3. For The Florals: Flowers & Greenery
I believe florals are a key element in every tablescape decor. They add an elegance and a focal point when looking at the table space. If you spend time, like I do, to ensure that your table fits a theme or a holiday celebration, it's just not "finished" until there is either one centrepiece or a number of little ones scattered throughout.
For this Feminine Boho style Valentine's tablescape, I decided to go with two smaller dried flower arrangements scattered along the center. Flower Factory (@flowerfactory), here in Vancouver has an amazing selection of dried florals, grasses and other statement branches. The softness of the dried floral textures and colours fit my muted palette perfectly. I think fresh florals would have hardened the look, making it less bohemian. I purchased a few dried florals and split them between two clear vases.
Alternatives for fresh flowers are becoming very popular for tablescapes and in home decor designs. Stay tuned, I have a post on this trend coming soon...
Overall, I love the soft feel of this tablescape. I'm pretty happy with how it came together. I think it's perfect for either an intimate Valentine's Day dinner for two, or for a Galentine's dinner party!
As always, I'd love to see any tablescapes you create this Valentine's Day! Send pics, comment in the comments below or post to #mykuratedlife on social.
Happy Tablescape Designing,
